The idea behind this project was prompted by an assignment called "Design for Disadvantage", where my class was tasked with creating a project that addressed an issue someone close to us experienced or based on our own experiences. We were not necessarily supposed to solve a problem, rather addressing an issue and a route to help improve things. I've always experienced microaggressions and I although I was very aware of them towards me and others, many people may not understand the weight behind their actions or words since the effects may not be as transparent. I created the Hear Them Out campaign in order to bring awareness to microaggressions in a public setting, and to provide resources and a perspective to those who may not be aware.
This website is meant to serve as an educational tool. I chose not to make it as a way to tell people that what they're doing is wrong, rather than let people learn for themselves and they can change from there. It is important to know why to change rather than just being told to change.
