As quarantine began to take full on effect in March, I felt the need to try to challenge myself to draw or do something art related everyday. I have always loved doing ballpoint pen drawings, specifically portraits, because I seem to learn something new with every drawing. For me, creating portraits in this way can be very comforting and they give me something to do that is distracting and time consuming. It also brings me back to the simplicity of working in black and white while also paying close attention to values and unique features on a person's face. These are a few of the drawings I completed during this time; I challenged myself to draw unfamiliar faces since I'm always drawn to self portraits or other familiar people. Ballpoint pen portraits are always a way for me to motivate myself at any time and they're a form of art that I feel is really authentic to who I am as an artist.
