My second project for my Text and Image class was to appropriate some parts of our project and to gather other parts from our own sources. The image I based my painting off of was from an online archive and I used a very general statement that doesn’t necessarily belong to anyone in particular. I wanted to use very striking colors and make it a bit busy. In the background I included a chessboard pattern in reference to the original reference picture of men playing chess and smoking. I chose not to include the actual chess game into the piece so that the men could look still and in a state of thought.
